Our New Home Office

Of course we've still got a long way to go in here, but prepping and slapping a brand new coat of paint on every available surface definitely improves this room by a long shot.

Here's a pic of the office just a couple of weeks ago...

Scary, right? And now for the what the room looks like after a week of prepping and painting (please forgive the not-so-great photos taken at night)....

Do you love it? We sure do!

We really love the texture of the "rough" wood now that it's painted, and we're glad that we painted it darker than the rest of the room to really highlight it. It adds depth and character to this space - and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Awhile back over the summer we asked my parents to pick us up some stuff at Ikea and haul the loot out here with them (there's no Ikeas anywhere near where we live). They brought the dining room shelves, the kitchen organization system, and also - this light.

The light fixture is perfect for this space - adding curves and softness to the otherwise steel-and-hard space. It's also a fantastic focal point!

So far we're loving the office, and Tom actually studies in there! (I don't know why he never studied in the office before... haha!) It's looking great already, but we've still got quite a ways to go in there - we need to decorate, organize, and we've got a special closet remodel already planned and underway, so stay tuned for more on how we're taking this office from shameful to showoff!

What do you think? Do you have the organizational/remodeling bug, too? Have you done a home office remodel of your own? Let us know - we'd love to see it!

  1. What a coincidence- we also worked on the "office" this past weekend! It's not prettified yet, but it's organized and that's wonderful!

I like the paint! It did a whole lot of good for the room. Glad it's getting used now too!

  2. Great job working with what you already had and making it modern! That light fixure is beyond cool! Where did you get it? (Sorry if I missed that somewhere.)

I need to do some major work in our office... hopefully soon!

BTW, even though you're done with this particular painting project, you should stop by and enter my giveaway for painter's tape! As of now, the chances of winning are pretty good. :)

  6. Paint makes a world of difference. I don't think I've ever seen wood walls like that before. They definitely are highlighted now! Love the light fixture as well!

  7. Thanks, everyone!

@Amanda - The light fixture is from Ikea, and I believe it's called "Knappa", but I'm not sure.

    Hope it helps!
