Takin' Care of Business

I'll be the first to admit that while we've tackled some things head-on and with an adventurous "git-r-done" attitude, there are other things that we have conveniently "forgotten" to do, and just turned a blind eye whenever we saw the evidence mocking us around the house.

Like the doors, for example.

Our hallway when we bought the house 1.5 years ago.

We began installing new doors (a long and sometimes painful process, as evidenced in this post) 11 months ago. That's almost an entire year ago.

And while we've gotten quite a few of them actually cut down to size and installed over the past year, they've remained in their factory-primed state the entire time - usually while all the trimwork and walls and even ceilings were painted around them.

But no more.

Yup, this past weekend I spent the entire day - noon until 9pm, folks - painting these suckers (and before anyone starts in on why Tom wasn't helping me paint, let me just say that he did his part in being productive by doing things I didn't want to do - like shoveling and cooking. Yeah, he's awesome.).

And the result?

Big difference, eh?

And while we're on the subject of the hallway, I figured it was time to show you guys a few other updates we've done to it.

We printed out some black and white photos from our wedding and framed them in a 11x17" white frame from Target and gave them a prominent place in the hallway. We love it because you can see them as soon as you step in the front door.

Our other mini-update on our quest to feather our nest, was to add a fun organizational hanging-thing in the hallway, right outside the office. It fit the space perfectly, and here we display any cards we receive, invitations, and some photos for a while before new ones come in and the old ones either get tossed or put away in storage. I know, I know - I don't want to be a hoarder, but some of them are just too cute to throw away!

So now our newly-painted bright white doors with their pretty hardware don't mock me anymore.

Well, except for the bathroom door. It hasn't been replaced yet.

But I'll save that one for another day.

Anyone else a member of the Procrastinator's Club (with slogan "I'll Do It Tomorrow...")? Is there anything that you've been putting off doing? Anything that you're proud to have finally tackled?

  1. Huge difference! I just love bright white. If only I could find the energy to paint the rest of mine. I can totally relate to the time suck!

  2. That brightened things up so much! Did you just paint or did you prime them? Our doors for the new bathroom have to be primed with oil based primer. yuck.

  3. Who would think a little white paint would make such a big difference... it looks beautiful with the white frames that you hung. I'm right there with you on the procrastination-- there is a certain hallway that I started prepping for paint a couple of months ago but haven't touched since. I really don't want to prep all that woodwork, but I know I'm going to have to do it someday!

  5. I love how that bright, crisp white freshens everything up! We finally put crown molding up in our living room this weekend (it had been sitting in our garage since Halloween...I can empathize with you about procrastination) and it's amazing how much difference a simple change makes.

  6. Gorgeous. Yes, doors are one of those things we put on the back burner of projects but what a difference. Luckily hubs likes to paint and likes to get it done!

  7. Thanks, guys!

@Katie - The doors were already pre-primed, so we had to slap on a couple coats of white paint and call them good! However, we have had to use oil-based primer for the rest of the woodwork in the house - paneling, trimwork, etc, and it's icky stuff but definitely gets the job done! :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Wow, what a difference! Who'd thunk it? The hall looked great before you painted the doors, but looks brighter, bigger and finished now. It really did open it up. And the photos? Beautiful, and the perfect look for the space.

  11. Dark trim definitely looks dated... mine is dark and the more makeovers I see where people paint theirs white the more convince I am that I need to do the same.
