Have You Ever...

I know it's a kid's game, but I'm really wondering:

Have you ever lived with something odd and didn't notice until months later?

Because we have. Apparently.

Me: This knob looks kind of funny.
Tom: Mmmhmmm.
Me: Are there any other knobs like this? The base of it is different than the one on the bottom...
Tom: Hmmm...
Me: (searching the rest of the knobs in the entire kitchen while Tom cooks)
Tom: Hey, watch it, now.
Me: Ohmygosh, it IS different!
Tom: What is?
Me: All this time we've been using this pantry every single day - and we never even noticed that we installed the wrong kind of knob on the top!

See these knobs on our pantry?

Yeah, the top one is a completely different type of knob than the bottom. The top one is the only small knob in the entire kitchen.

And the funny thing is - we didn't notice until just recently.

6 months after we painted the cabinets and installed the new knobs.

Go figure, eh? Yeah, we're feeling pretty silly right about now.

So, we're curious - has something like this ever happened to you?

  1. I keep scrolling up to those photos, and the difference is nearly imperceptible. Our friend Peter went on eBay and scored us all vintage glass knobs for our period doors. I'd be freaked out if things in my house actually matched. I'd think there was something horribly wrong.

  3. I probably should've mentioned this in the post: it's a very, very small difference. It's hard to tell in the photos, but trust me - that top knob IS smaller! I swear!! lol That's probably why it took us so long to notice it, actually... :)
