Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes

I've been a bad blogger.

You see, we've made some serious decorating changes in our living room over the past 6 months that I haven't told you guys about. Oops.

Mostly, we switched up the whole color scheme. Goodbye plain white breezy curtains and super-neutral pillows, and hello to bright and geometric navy and yellow yummyness.

Should I mention that we LOVE the new curtains and pillows? The yellow and navy combo is just so colorful and classic. And the new curtains (from Ikea), are light-blocking - which also makes them very private. With a baby on the way, well, let's just say that privacy is quickly becoming a priority around here. You never know what might happen with a baby on board, and we'd rather save ourselves - and our neighbors - any unnecessary embarrassment if we can help it.

And what about these sweet pillows? I fell in love with them all at West Elm. And then had to figure out how to smuggle 6 pillows on an airplane from Florida back to Nebraska. Thank goodness 4 of them were just pillow covers!

Another little change? Thanks to transforming my previous studio space into the nursery, we had to find a new home for my easel. This posed a fun little problem, until Tom came up with the idea of using it as sort of a picture frame to display some art in the living room in the awkward and empty space to the left of the fireplace until we figure out what else to put there. I gave the man total props for originality and creativeness!

I gotta admit, the easel does look pretty darn spiffy there (although I clearly need to paint something with more coordinating colors to tie in the rest of the room). It's tall, which helps to balance the hall entrance and fireplace, and it's also very shallow (since we have it collapsed), which helps to open up the space to pass through to the sitting area. Kudos to Tom! I tell ya, he might just be the next decorating genius.

And I snapped a little photo of the coffee table centerpiece to show you before we say a final farewell to Summer and start breaking out the Fall decorations. I will miss this light and beachy little setup I've got goin' on here, but I can't complain - Fall is by far my favorite season!

And just for fun, here's a pic of the old decor we had in this room roundabouts 6 or 7 months ago:

And today:

And just because, here's a pic of the room from wayyy back when we first moved in here - yikes!

So what do you think? Anyone else a huge fan of the colors yellow or navy? Are you looking forward to Fall but just a little sad to be leaving Summer behind, too?

  1. Wow it looks great! The curtains make a huge difference! We are in need of some light-blocking curtains since people from neighboring apartments could walk by and peak in through the crack of the blinds that don't completely cover the window which is freaky when we are getting dressed or sleeping!

I really love your rug and would love one like that in our living room but it just isn't in the cards for us right now since the bathroom door won't open over a rug and we work out a lot and wouldn't want to work out on a new rug meaning it would have to be rolled up every day. For now I'll just keep dreaming!
